This classic Woods BLUE & WHITE border pattern from around 1921 is almost certainly the work of designer Frederick Rhead, and features a typical Rhead backstamp depicting a lotus blossom.

The design depicts oriental ladies in kimonos performing a variety of tasks - spinning, flower arranging, etc - combined with a very pretty floral border.

 

 

Compare it with BOOTHS' blue & white Ming pattern, which also features vignettes of oriental scenes.The MING plate is on the left.

 

Both these blue & white designs were occasionally produced with gold rims, as in the detail right:

Unless specifically mentioned, the items shown below do not have gold trim.
