Doulton's answer to Shelley Art Deco ware
- a stunning design featuring handpainting
in two greens and bright yellow, on a blue transfer.
The Merryweather pattern was produced throughout the 1930s and 40s, but is becoming hard to find. Plates and platters are often impressed with date stamps, the last two figures indicating the year of production.
The backstamp
includes two registration numbers:
|
|
• Reg No 597783 dates from 1912 and refers to the SHAPE - the beautiful octagonal
cups and 12-sided plates are the same as the Nankin,
Old Leeds Spray and
D4051 patterns,
which have the same Reg No.
• Reg No 726292 presumably applies specifically to the MERRYWEATHER design, and
dates from 1926. The 'Made in England' in the backstamp
indicates a date of roughly the same period, c. 1930+.
