Another very attractive blue and white
design by Frederick Rhead, featuring a strikingly fierce
eagle. There is also a RED version of this pattern.
Most AQUILA items have the HH&G Toby
Jug backstamp rather than a Woods mark, signifying they were
made for the retailers HALES, HANCOCK & GODWIN. Items are
occasionally found with the familiar Woods urn mark.
The Reg No 718718 dates the AQUILA design
to 1926+.
AQUILA was produced in two versions:
Indented rim
with ochre trim.
This distinctive shape is also found on other Frederick Rhead
patterns such as STANLEY and
NILE.
Gadrooned rim (piecrust)
without ochre trim. Examples of this
can be found on the JUGS page (see below)
