This Staffordshire Pottery was established in 1876 at the Meir Works, Longton.
We specialise in their pretty and collectable Fantasy pattern, which features an all-over chintz-like design of handpainted flowers on a blue transfer background of leaves.
See also Barker Bros Nasturtium pattern.
Fantasy
The earliest examples of this pattern were produced during the period 1912-30, and feature a backstamp that includes a fleur-de-lys motif and the words MEIR WORKS LONGTON.
More recent examples can be dated 1937+, the backstamp featuring a crown and the words ROYAL TUDOR WARE. Please see below for examples of both marks.
The transfer of leaves on the later items is usually sharper and the colours brighter. These items are generally free of the crazing that is so often present on the earlier ones without the ROYAL TUDOR mark.
However the earlier items are still highly collectable, perhaps more so in view of their greater age.
